President Clinton Speaks

President Clinton is addressing us, but while his words sound right,
his facial expression on the large screen suggests he is not
completely cool with all of this. His big smile came out only while
he spoke of Joe Biden.

The shouts of the crowd urge him on, and the words are strong.

But I'm worried.

Maybe he's just really tired.

Does it look this way on TV?

One of the perks of being a stay-at-home-mom is that I can spend 6 hours watching C-Span's gavel-to-gavel coverage, as if I were there as a delegate, too! Unfortunately, 2-year-old Sophia decided just as the roll call's acclimation vote took place that it was her turn to watch TV, and she demanded Dora the Explorer. So much for sharing this historic moment with my child.

The great part is that I get to watch all of the speeches without Brokaw and others telling me what to expect before and what they thought of it afterwards. I thought Bill Clinton's speech was great, very authentic. Actually, it's been my favorite so far!

One thing Steve and I have both noticed is that Michele Obama looked "pinched" last night when Hillary spoke. When C-Span's cameras cut to her, her smiles were always closed-lipped and she looked like she still considers the Clintons the enemy. She was a little better tonight during Bill's speech, but she smiled more authentically when Kerry was speaking.

Julie, I'm so excited for you! I've seen you root for your favorite football team, so I know the "cheerleader" role you are playing. The CA delegation is lucky to have you! What an amazing experience you are having. Thanks for the blog, your posts are the best!

Julie,

President Bill Clinton's speech came over really well on TV ... he seemed truly genuine. He was supposed to be introducing Biden :-) But he took the time to reintroduce himself to the folks.
What moved me was at the very end when Senator Obama spoke of the achievements of the Clinton presidency.. the cameras panned to Bill and e seemed overcome himself and you could sees him saying "thankyou" almost to himself ... one felt the rift healed
